Rev. Jackson, African, Haitian leaders Demand Apology from Trump over “s…hole” remarks
Chicago: Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. will be joined by African and Haitian leaders at a press conference 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 13, at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters, 930 E. 50 th St., to demand an apology from President Donald Trump for labeling Africa, Haiti and El Salvador as “s…hole” countries.
Saying that Trump “has no respect,” Rev. Jackson said, “Africa is the largest continent. Africa’s resources are America’s original wealth…. It is so insane for Trump to say something so disgusting, so insensitive. “
Rev. Jackson bristled when Trump asked why can’t there be more people from Norway. “It is a nationalist, supremacist point of view. America is a multi-cultural society. White nationalism does not fit with multiculturalism. We are a nation of peoples of varying talents. We are embarrassed by his remarks, but I am not surprised because unfortunately it is a pattern,” said Rev. Jackson.
Anger and indignation continues to mount against Trump for making those remarks during a White House meeting with mostly Republicans and one Democrat Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL). During that meeting, Trump, according to Durbin, repeatedly made the “S-hole” remark especially aimed at African countries.
While Trump Friday denied making the remarks, Durbin said, “I was sickened and heart-broken to think that in this hallowed office, this Oval Office of the President that such vile, hateful, racist remarks were made by the President of the U.S.”
