Civil Rights Legend Rev. Al Sharpton to be Honored

On Tuesday, April 2 one of the candidates will become Chicago’s first African American woman mayor, a historic event that has the whole country watching, including theRev. Al Sharpton, who will be Saturday’s keynote speaker.
"I am calling for civility and urging the mayoral candidates to stick to the issues,” Rev. Sharpton said, “because we don't want to be like President Trump."
Rev. Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network, former director of Ministers for the National Rainbow PUSH Coalition and current host of the MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation,” will also be presented with the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s Voice for the Voiceless award for his lifetime of civil rights activism.
“There are few voices that have as long a track record of service that matches his or his commitment,” said Rev. Jackson, who has known Rev. Sharpton since the New York City-based activist was 12 years old. “He has never stopped working for justice. We congratulate him.”
Rainbow PUSH Coalition is a multi-racial, multi-issue, progressive, international organization that was formed in December 1996 by the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. through merging of two organizations he founded Operation PUSH People United to Serve Humanity (estab. 1971) and the Rainbow Coalition (estab. 1984).
