The Electrifying Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III to Keynote Rainbow PUSH Founder’s Day Celebration

Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, the electrifying senior pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ, who represents the next generation of church-based freedom fighters and social justice activists, will be the keynote speaker as the Rainbow PUSH Coalition celebrates Founder’s Day

Saturday, December 23, 2017

10 A.M. – 11:30 A.M.

Rainbow PUSH Coalition National Headquarters

930 E. 50th Street

Chicago, IL.

Operation PUSH (now the Rainbow PUSH Coalition) was founded in Chicago on Christmas Day, 1971. Rev. Moss’ father, civil rights icon Rev. Otis Moss II, was a founding board member of the organization created and led to this day by Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.

“Then and now,” Rev. Jackson says, “the one consistent line of struggle has been to expand opportunities, to open closed doors, to fight for social, economic justice and political empowerment.”

Rev. Moss III fits firmly in that tradition. An honors graduate of Morehouse College, with a master’s degree from Yale Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary, Dr. Moss has spent the last two decades practicing and preaching “a black theology that unapologetically calls attention to the problems of mass incarceration, environmental justice and economic inequality.”

The music of uplift and liberation has always played a major role in the civil rights movement. On Saturday that music will be performed by gospel greats Kim Stratton, Darius Brooks and the award-winning Kinsmen.

There will also be a Founder’s Day breakfast for clergy at 8 A.M. at PUSH, hosted by Rev. Rodney Patterson, senior pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. The breakfast will be focused on expanding PUSH’s “1000 Churches Connected,” a campaign to help churches develop programs in financial stewardship, STEAM, social justice advocacy and voter registration.

At the end of the program, Rev. Jackson will join PUSH volunteers to distribute 200 free food baskets and Christmas turkeys donated for the third week in a row by Jewel-Osco.
